By day my observatory looks like an ordinary (if rather grandiose) garden shed. at night the roof sections go down and back up. they "flap" like a bird's wings.. The room on the left is the 8' x 10' control room covered by a permanent roof. of course the room on the right is the 12' x 10' observing room with a permanent pier placed in the center..
Thanks guys for the comments. star watcher - i wouldn't let the site put you off, there will still be plenty of objects to look at or image in the 50% of the sky you can see, and as for light pollution, well i rate mine pretty bad too, probably down to magnitude 4 at best.. Observatory plan (8' x 13' room with roll-off roof) my design was developed from the many ideas that i found on the amateur observatories web-site. i also, used the basic roof roller system design from sky shed.. Roll-off roof observatory construction containing part numbers and links to help you build your own. when i decided i wanted to get involved in astro-photography i soon learned that you really need a solid permanent mount for the scope..
